Theo's Chambered Body Guitar

weekly update for 6.2.06

Briefly describe the project:

The project is to design, make the toolpaths, cut out, and ultimatly have a complete guitar.

What engineering frameworks have you worked with this week? http://dhsengineering.pbwiki.com/FrameworksStandards

The frameworks used so far has been engineering design and manufacturing. There was a lot of thought put into the design of the guitar, i chose to chamber the guitar for a lighter body and a better sound. On the manufacturing side of things I chose to mill the guitar out on the shopbot for a prescise cut.

What has your group accomplished this week?

This week we finally got the guitar cut out. It took a couple tries because for some reason the shobot kept losing connections but we completely cut out the outline.

What problems has your group overcome this week?

We overcame the promblem of the shopbot loosing connectivity and not being able to finish the cut.

What are the most significant problems your group faces at this time? What will you do to meet these problems?

After completing it we relized that there was still alot of work that had to be done to fix all the mistakes. So instead of wasting valuable time repairing mistakes by the shopbot, we decided to just cut out a new body.

What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?

We got a new body blank made out of cherry and at the time need no other materials.

On the manufacturing side of things I chose to mill the guitar out on the shopbot for a prescise cut.

What has your group accomplished this week?

This week we got most of the guitar cut out but unfortunatly the shopbot lost connection right before it was complete.

What problems has your group overcome this week?

We thought that we had overcome the promblem of the shopbot loosing connectivity and for the most part we did except for at the very end of my cut.

What are the most significant problems your group faces at this time? What will you do to meet these problems?

A major problem was that the drill bit came loose during the cut and cut through to the other side. To fix this I will cut out a piece of mahogony to plugg the hole.

What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?

I pretty much have all the information i need, including a book on how to make guitars and a full size diagram of a gibson les paul. Now i need some maple for the top.

The problems i am focusing on right now is fixing the bad cuts.
