How to Make a Guitar.pdf
Overview
I've decided to make a guitar in a way that most custom or first time guitar makers wouldn't use. Most likely because they do not have the availble resources.I was going to make a guitar the traditional way and practiced on a smaller version wich didnt come out bad. But then I discovered that my school has a Shop Bot also known as a CNC (Computer Numeric Control) Machine. Knowing that i have a CNC machine at my disposal i decided that it would be best to use it to achieve the precision design of my guitar.
Pro's and Con's
The pro's to using the CNC machine to cut out my guitar is that it will cut out the prcise design of the guitar that I envisioned. There are also many dimensions to the guitar that are hard to achieve the exact right dimension when making it by hand. For example, the tilt of the neck must be 3 deg. in order for proper sting alignment. Something nearly impossible to achieve by hand but using the cad program, I can angle the neck pocket to exactly 3 deg.
The con's of using the CNC Machine is that I could easily ruin my whole guitar if it is not desinged correctly in CAD. If the pickup holes are not spaced correctly or the neck pocket is not the right size, i might aswell throw my big, heavy and expensive wood blank, wich took me a long time to make, away. Once I press the button to start cutting there is no turning back.
